Day 1 Bags packed, on the bus and ready to go. Bright and early we arrived at school and hopped on the buses, excited for the week that was ahead of us. Not knowing what to expect, we arrived in carlingford town full of excitement and and after just a short walk from the buses which i found very difficult because of the amount of bags I brought with me, we arrived at Carlingford Adventure Centre. When we arrived we were met by around three of the staff there who spoke to us about our week, the activities, the rules, the rooms and everything else we needed to know. Hungry for adventure, my group marched through Carlingford town to the Skypark. The Sky Park involves walking across a long course suspended in the sky. It has a few zip lines on it, but mostly contains logs dangerously dangling from a thin rope and narrow wires suspended in the air, and we are expected to cross these obstacles mentioned along with many others! I found this activity very challenging but very fun. After a few hours in Skylark we headed back down to the centre for dinner and some time to relax until we embarked on our night activity. Our first night activity was the Carlingford Challenge, This was a fun quiz in which we were split into group and did things as a team to compete against the other teams. I thoroughly enjoyed this activity. Having the Carlingford Challenge on the first night was ideal because we were all very tired and we didn't have to leave the centre. After group B returned from their night time activitie we were allowed relax and socialise in the two common rooms that were available to us and then at 10 o’clock we were off to bed! Day 2 After being woken at 7:30 over the intercom by the staff in the centre, everyone tiredly went downstairs for breakfast and after some showers and a change out of our pajamas we were ready for the day ahead of us. My groups morning activity for tuesday was canoeing but because I was not feeling well I figured it wouldn't be a good idea to get in the freezing water, I went with group B to the skypark. I took pictures of everyone doing the obstacle course and I also helped people get the hang of how to use all the equipment. Afterwards we headed back to the centre for lunch. Our midday activity was laser tag which I was buzzing for because I had heard such great things about it. We were given camouflage suits and laser guns and we headed out of carlingford town and up a long hike towards the forest for Laser Tag. Our group were shown how to use the laser guns and split into two teams, the red and the blue team, rivals for the rest of the activity. Our teams carried out a number of different competitions. Back down to the centre for dinner and some time to relax until we embarked on our night activity. Our activity was a night line in the forest in which we were blindfolded and had to work as a team from the first person to the last to guide the group along. I found this activity nerve-wrecking yet hilarious. Day 3 After breakfast we headed out for our morning activity. My groups morning activity for Wednesday was a mixture of of frisbee golf, archery, and aeroball. I loved frisbee golf and as a group we were surprisingly good at it. Our lunchtime activity was back up the mountain and was an afternoon of zip lining. After being taught how to use the harnesses and clips we were sent on to the course. It was one of my favourite activities I took part in. Our nighttime activity for the third night was a murder mystery that was taking pace i carlingford town. We were split up into groups of 6 and we headed out with our flashlights and clues and had to run around the town eliminating suspects and weapons. It was an extremely well run activity and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Day 4 On Thursday morning we had to pack all our clothes and have the beds stripped and the room spotless. This was very challenging because it was 7:30 in the morning and because my friend abbie had been up the night before sick so I also packed for her, but thankfully we managed to work together and have the place looking as good as we got it within the hour. Afterwards we had to pretend we were one a ‘Treasure Island’ and in this island there were many obstacles we had to overcome in order to receive precious ‘gems’. The team with the most gems would be crowned the winner of this challenge! As a team we completed many activities which were at times difficult and challening My favourite activity was the one where we had to get a ball through a maze, and in this maze were countless holes. If the ball fell through one of these holes we would have to unfortunately start again! We then headed back for lunch and relaxing time. For our midday activity for that day was a team building high ropes challenge in which there were a number of different activities that we had to work as a team to complete whilst high in the air in harnesses which were controlled by your friends on the ground. I think everyone enjoyed this activity and forcing us to help each other complete each challenge. After this we headed back to the centre to have our final meal before we headed home. I had very mixed emotions about leaving carlingford, I had one of the best weeks of my life and had bonded so close with my year but at the same time I think everyone was slightly ready to go home. Carlingford I know will be one of the best trips I'll ever go on and I'll never forget it.
