MUSICAL On October 27th we found out that our musical was Legally Blonde which i was ecstatic about as I was such a big fan of the movies but also curious as I never knew there was a musical version of Legally Blonde. We were told just before we got our midterm in October. Therefore I made it my priority to familiarize myself with the tunes and words to the songs during the midterm, By the Monday we got back to school I could not get the words to ‘Omigod you guys’ out of my head! After midterm we found out who got what parts, I was given the part of perfume girl number 1, which I was really happy about because I wanted to be included in the musical but not have to say too much because that is not my thing, so this part was ideal! Everyone was told by the end of the christmas break we all had to of had all our lines learnt off and to know all the songs. Although each form had been given two dances and we had got ourselves familiar with them on January 15th musical rehearsal officially had started and from then on all principles were at the rehearsals everyday till February 6th! I was not a principle until this stage, all the girls became a principle at this stage because there are so few of us and we are all needed in each dance. I was absolutely thrilled about this because I had my line and also now i get to be in each dance, this was just ideal for me. The following few weeks were probably the most exciting few weeks of my life. I was so focused on the show that I would spend my whole day in school doing the dances and singing the songs that when I got home I would practise them again, I just couldn't get enough of it! Fast forward two weeks of hard work and fun and its the week of the show! This week was such an exciting and nerve-wrecking week. On the Monday we had our performance in front of the junior school which was really enjoyable as the little boys and girls were so memorized by the costumes, dances and songs. Fast forward to 6 o’clock in the evening, We all gathered in our changing rooms preparing ourselves for the evening performance. Our faces are already caked in makeup, orange faces, red lips, shiny eye shadow...you get the picture! Since we performed our musical already this afternoon, we left our stage makeup on to save time in the evening. Half an hour later, girls rushing in and out of the bathroom in their colourful outfits , boys lurking around the halls getting their makeup done by girls, actors and actresses queueing to get their microphones on, the band warming up in the pit. 10 minutes to go, before the show commences! Everyone getting in their places and making sure everyone is in the correct order to go stage in. I will never forget those moments back stage, just seconds before I went on stage, the thrilling atmosphere, the exciting whispers. As it got closer for the show to commence the music began and we waited for our que. We ran on the dim lighted, empty stage, the spotlight blinding us, so all we could see was darkness and a bright circle of light at the back of the room, the audience seemed invisible. As the musical continued the audience really got involved and laughed at all the jokes and clapped along to the songs and this really encouraged us to do it to the best of our ability. No performance was the same, each afternoon and each evening was uniquely incredible in its own way and each audience reacted differently to the musical. Looking back at the musical I can honestly say it is the best thing I have done so far in TY. As a year we bonded immensely over the few weeks in January and February. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to do the musical and for the memories I have made in doing it!
