Bazaar: On Thursday the 14th of December St Gerards hosted our annual Christmas Bazaar. The fair includes a variety of different things including; Santa’s Grotto, auctions, fortune telling and bake sales. This year as part of YSI we organised to hold a bake sale. All members of YSI took part and baked goods, making decorations and bags of sweets. All proceeds at our stall went to Tiglin.
Hamper Packing: On Tuesday the 19th of December all fourth and fifth year students made over a hundred hampers for St Vincent de Paul which were going to be distributed to families in our local area who need them. All fourth year student were put into groups of around eight and were given a fifth year student who would guide us through the process. Each group had to make twenty hampers in the hour. At first Jessica who was demonstrating what to do gave us all an item to get and we had to collect twenty of each item. Once all the items were collected we began packing the hampers. The hampers all had to be packed in a certain way. After all the hampers were packed we were treated to a hot chocolate in the dining hall.
Dignity Bag Packing: In YSI we were doing research on the amount of people sleeping rough in Ireland this christmas and we decided we wanted to help those who were by giving them a little piece of dignity back by providing products they need for personal hygiene for personal hygiene. Over the course of two weeks we collected various products from each year group that they we assigned. On Tuesday the 19th of December all TY students made the dignity bags. We set up stations for each product and each station was set one person and the rest of the TY students went to each station and collected each product and it was really amazing how quick and efficient this set up was. I was really proud of us especially the YSI group because we spent so much time preparing these dignity bags and it definitly payed off.
Carol singing: On Thursday the 21st of December all members of YSI went to Stephens Green shopping centre to sing carols and raise money for the Peter Mcferry trust. It was great fun and we raise over one thousand euro for a great cause.
