Are Athletes a good influence on young children? Ladies and Gentlemen, today I will be discussing why I believe athletes are not always a good influence on children. Although athletes are hard workers who stay fit and healthy they are not always a good influence. Some athletes use their platform to influence others to do great things that will benefit others, but other athletes waste their money on irrelevant things. Those athletes who decide to waste their money often boast about their extravagant purchases on social media platforms, such as Instagram. Most young boys and girls have Instagram and follow these athletes are not setting good examples to these children. An example of an athlete who shows off their expensive purchases is Floyd Mayweather. Floyd often post pictures of his private jets and thats not all, he also has sacks of cash in the background of most pictures he posts. Another factor that makes some athletes a bad influence on children is the use of drugs. It's no secret some athletes use performance-enchancing drugs in order to perform better then their opposition. This can obviously affect children who look up to them. An example of a professional athlete who took a performance-enchancing drug is a New York Yankee player named Alex Rodriguez who was suspended for taking the performance-enchancing drugs. I do agree that on many occasions their have been excellent there have been phenomenal athletes who have been excellent influences for children but for me the number of athletes who have been bad influences is greater then those who have been good.
Debate: 'Should the Death Penalty be introduced in Ireland' Chairperson, adjudicators, fellow speakers, members of the audience, my name is Sallyann Noonan and I am here today along with my teammates Adele, Sarah, Daniel and Ryan to oppose the motion "The Death Penalty should be introduced in Ireland". We will be defining the motion in the following way; I will be discussing the cost of the death penalty. Adele will be discussing the points of having no right to kill and that prison is a bigger punishment then execution. Daniel will outline the point that mentally ill people are executed. Ryan will discuss how the death penalty puts innocent people at risk. Sarah will conclude and sum up our points on this topic. And now I will discuss the cost of the death penalty. The cost of the death penalty as opposed to a life without parole is exponential. Due to the extra measures taken in judicial proceedings, lawyer fees, extended trials and expert witnesses costs end up being higher. A cost study by the Sacramento Bee noted that California would save $90 million per year if it were to completely eliminate the death penalty.
