Eagles Flight Workshop: On Thursday the 21st of September I attended the Eagles Flight Workshop who was ran by Gerr O'Shea. It was all about planning ahead and working as a team. I found it very clever how he taught us about what mistakes we tend to make and how to avoid these mistakes. Gerr split us up into groups of around four or five as a team we played The Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine. We had to plan which route we were going to take and what supplies we were going to bring and how much of them we needed to succeed. I found the debrief very interesting, Gerr explained that if we had payed more attention to planning that we would of had a complete different result, but what I realised was that this game was just an example of how we work in school aswell. If I plan ahead and really think about my end goal and how to get there before I begin, it will make a huge difference in the process. I would highly recommend the Eagles Flight Workshop.
Dell: IT is not just for geeks On Friday the 29th of September we had a talk with Aidan who works as an accountant for Dell and Maire who is the world wide HR manager for Dell. They explained how they got involved in Dell. They then taught us what qualities you need to be fit for all the different jobs in Dell. I loved this talk because it really opened my eyes to the never ending opportunities that come with working with companies such as Dell.
The Minister of Health: On Monday the 6th of November the Minster of Health Simon Harris came and visited our school and delivered a speech on the importance of healthy eating not only on our physical health but also on our mental health. e sowed to us the new food pyramid and what small changes we could make to our diet that will have a big effect on our body. I really enjoyed this talk as it gave me an insight on what the constant changes the government makes to educate the people of Ireland on healthy eating.
Anxiety; Alison Canavan On Monday the 6th of November Alison Canavan a former model came in to talk to us all about her struggle with anxiety .Alison talked to us about her addiction to alcohol and all of the challenges she has faced in her in her life. Alison taught us her way of dealing with anxiety on a daily basis and also gave us a demonstration on a breathing technique she uses everyday to reduce her anxiety, I loved this and I found that it really does help to relax so I will definitely be using this in the future! I really enjoyed this talk because I loved how personal Alison was and how happy she is now to be out the other side. Alison really showed us there is light at the end of the tunnel and gave hope to those who are in a dark place at the moment.
Nutritional Therapist On Tuesday the 7th of November a nutritional therapist came in to teach us all about our digestive system and how it affects our mood. Studies have been carried out to prove that our mood and our mental health really can affect our digestion. Often those who suffer with anxiety or depression also suffer with constipation and diarrhoea. I found this really interesting because I never knew that your mental health could actually effect your digestion and vice versa.
